An open-world voxel action RPG

Dione Project

Pick frogfolk, feline, human or elf, choose a class and leave town. The slimes by the road are easy. The goblin camp over the hill is a real fight, and every region past it is harder, with better loot. Play alone or with up to seven friends.

How it plays

You start in a town square with your class's weapon, a glider and a lantern.

An elf mage points her staff as a burning meteor falls on a goblin war camp in an open meadow, the ground under the goblins glowing orange.

Pick a class, then learn how it fights

Warrior, ranger, rogue or mage, and each one handles the same goblin its own way. The warrior lassos it and drags it in. The ranger backs off and leaves a snare where it'll step. Playing a rogue, you slip behind it or vanish mid-fight. The mage? An ice wall, then up it. Whatever you pick, watch the wind-up. Roll at the last moment and your next hit is a sure crit.

A warrior stands among fallen goblins outside their war camp, a gold beam rising from a legendary drop beside him and blue and green beams at his feet, while the goblin warchief still stands by the tents.

Every fight could drop something better

Sometimes it's just a better sword. Legendaries go further: they carry powers, like an aimed shot that bounces to two more targets, or a hit that finishes off a creature you've left nearly dead. Levels come from fights and quests, and a region that sent you running at level 5 feels different at 15.

The world

Every region is on your map from the first minute, shaded by how much trouble it'll give you. Near town it's slimes and boars. A few kilometres out there are trolls in caves and goblin warchiefs with a war camp around them. Nothing stops you from going early. You'll find out soon enough whether you should have.

The game's map around Meter City: every region already drawn with its name and level, the legend on the right and a region's level showing under the cursor.
A market street in Meter City in the morning, with stalls of produce, townsfolk walking and gold ! marks over the vendors.

Towns are where you find work

Someone in every town needs a hand: a hunt, a camp cleared out, a traveller walked to the next village. Ask around and you'll hear about a lair or some old ruins, and which way they are. Get back after dark and the shops are shut, but the tavern stays open late and rents rooms.

Inside an abandoned mine, the Ogre Foreman raises his hammer over a warrior, his boss bar across the top of the screen.

Some places are worth the trouble

Every town has a monster camp or two within walking distance. Farther out, some regions have an abandoned mine, two or three floors of kobolds, falling rocks and locked doors to pick. The Ogre Foreman waits behind a locked gate, and the key is somewhere in the mine. Bring a light. It's pitch black down there, and the nights up top are no better.

A character glides along the coast under a glider, with the sea on one side and terraced green hills and a walled city on the other.

Climb it, then jump off it

You start with a glider, so any cliff you climb is also a way down. A river is a swim, or a canoe ride. A sailboat takes a few friends across the lake, as fast as the wind allows.

Crafting

The smithy up close during a craft: a copper sword blank glowing orange in the coals, with the chimney, bellows, anvil and quench trough on a beach at sunset, and the craft card showing the heat.

Make your own gear

At the forge you pump the bellows until the metal glows the right colour, hammer it in a steady rhythm, then quench it. The better you work, the better the piece, and with practice that means legendaries. The good ore sits deep, in regions that fight back. Alchemy and cooking are experiments: hit on a new combination and you get to name it.

Better with friends

Three friends take on a goblin war camp in a meadow: a frogfolk ranger with his bow up front, an elf mage in the thick of it with a warrior's raised sword behind her, and the warchief caught in the fire beside a wall of ice.

Up to eight of you on one server

You can play solo, but honestly, I made Dione Project to be played with friends. The warrior drags the goblin in, the mage walls off its friends and the ranger picks off the rest from the ridge. Everyone who helped gets their own drop, so nobody argues over loot. And if you go down, a friend has twenty seconds to get you back up.
